In the information age in which we live in today, we have at our fingertips instant information about every and any topic our minds desire to explore. However, when it comes to understanding or gaining information about how the mind of a burglar works, im sorry to say that we often either come up with our own conclusions based on what we consider to be common sense or we see a movie where a burglar uses a credit card or a paperclip to break into a door and we assume it is that easy. The truth is that if we would just use a little common sense, re think and change some of the ways we do things, educate ourselves and families and consider home security enhancements, we can and will make our homes safer.

According to FBI statistics and research gathered by the FBI we can now have a better idea of what area in our home is more likely to be an entry point for an intruder.

The following statistics / percentages show the areas of entry

34% front door 23% first floor window 22% back door 9% garage 4% basement 4% unlocked entrance 2% second floor 2% storage area.

Educating ourselves on statistics relating to certain aspects of the behavior patterns relating to burglars and break in attempts helps us to have an advantage in determining if we are or aren’t a possible target for a break-in.

The following is a list of facts about burglars/ burglaries

Most homes are not robbed by professional thieves. Most robberies are committed by male teenage burglars.

The average burglar lives only a mile or two from the homes which he chooses to burglarize.

In the U.S. a burglary occurs once every 14.6 seconds.

Most burglaries occur during the day when home owners are at work.

The average burglar does not spend more than 8 to 12 minutes in any home during a burglary.

34% of the time intruders walk right in through the front door. The next most popular points of entry include/ first floor windows, back doors, garage

More than 65% of burglaries occur in residential neighborhoods.

Not having an ADT monitored home security system triples your chances of being a burglary victim.

The first place an intruder will go to after entering a home is the master bedroom.

Ladders and tools should not be left outside the house, a burglar can use these to break in.

Burglars will almost always prefer to attempt a break in when a residence is unoccupied. Take care to make sure that your home looks lived in , even if it means installing timers which turn on light as well as possibly a television set or radio at regular intervals. Make sure newspapers are picked up by a neighbor and always try and leave a car in the driveway if possible. Install motion sensor flood lights on the exterior of your home to deter anyone from approaching the residence. Never ever leave jewelry or cash at home where it is easily accessible.

Do everything you can to make it more appealing for a burglar to pass your house by without even attempting to break in. To prevent break ins contact your local ADT dealer at (305) 424-9219 or toll free at (800) 991-6587

Living in this current economic crisis has been extremely financially difficult for many American families. While residing in modern day America brings many comforts and conveniences in spite of our current economy, some things never go away, such as crime. In all areas of the United States, home burglaries and other home related crimes continue to be a problem. It is actually estimated that in Miami Dade County, from 2004 to 2008 the percentage of home intrusions increased by 10%. Home safety and security is a top priority to all families, and for many families installing a home security system is the best way to ensure that safety and security.

The average cost of a home break-in is around $2,000. Financially that is quite a burden, while in addition to having to bear that financial burden, one is left with the feeling of being unprotected in your own home and knowing that someone has gone through all of your personal belongings. After realizing how costly and fear-provoking a break-in can be, it should be a bit more clear to see why it is so important to get a home security system. Protecting your home from an intrusion is simple and less costly than you might think. And the peace of mind that you get from knowing that your loved ones, home, and belongings are safe is something you cannot put a price on.

Installing a home security system can actually financially benefit your family in more ways than one. Most burglars admit to avoiding homes that are secured with a home security system. When the intrusion is avoided, financial loss and emotional stress is avoided as well. In the case of a home break-in, when an alarm is activated, most burglars escape the scene as well, avoiding additional financial property and belonging loss and damage.

In addition to preventing and detecting home intrusions, home security systems have other important home safety devices. The United States Fire Administration stated that there was an estimated 1.6 million fires in 2007 and direct property loss due to fires was estimated at $14.6 million. It is also stated that the combination of installing a smoke detector and sprinkler lowers the chance of a fire by 82%. With an ADT approved monitored smoke detector, your home is safe from fire and smoke damage, and you are given quick access to the authorities, whether you are at home, away, or sound asleep. With insured home fire safety, you are reaping substantial financial benefits with the prevention of property loss and damage, and most importantly, the comfort of knowing your family is safe in case of a home fire, at all times.

Another detector that is quite important for preventing property damage and loss is a flood detector. A flood detector alerts your ADT monitoring center of rising water in your home, in order to help prevent severe water damage. Water damage repairs can vary in price greatly; some have even found the amount to repair the water damage to be more expensive then tearing down the home and rebuilding. Therefore, installing a flood detector in your home can be of incredible financial aid to you in case of a water leak or any other flooding situation.

Finally, regardless of home intrusion or any other damage that may occur in your home, if you install an ADT home security, you are guaranteed direct savings. As an ADT customer, you can receive a Home Owner’s Certificate, which may save you up to 20% on your home insurance. Who knew that by simply getting a home security system installed, you would be saving hundreds of dollars? In times when money is tight, it is great to know that your family’s security does not have to be compromised, and that you can actually save some money as well.

High tech home security helps to eliminate the risk of being attacked or surprised in your home. Many security systems available on the market today are simply not cutting edge. The new technology of this day and age has made high tech home security more safe and effective than it has ever been before. Once you have seen the new and improved features available in today’s home security systems, there will be no turning back, and you will not understand why there are so many inferior home security devices available today.

Home invasions occur every single day in the United States. Criminals break in to the homes of good natured citizens with the intentions of stealing valuables, money or expensive electronics. Sometimes a burglar may threaten you or family members and try to get personal information out of you, such as banking information, pin numbers, credit card numbers, and other such information. Criminals will stop at nothing to gain from your family and they will get information out of you by any means necessary. However, the reasons for home invasions are not limited to just theft. Break-ins occur every day for the purposes of harming, assaulting or even killing the inhabitants of a home. Did you know that 60% of all the reported rapes in the United States take place inside the home of the victim? Sometimes it may be somebody you know or even trust who invades your home, either because the are a jealousy-crazed ex-lover or a business colleague who has been struck by greed or revenge. You should always be careful who you let into your home, but having a cutting edge high tech home security system will go a long way towards making you feel safer and more secure in your home.

Protecting your family, your belongings and the well being of your home and loved ones starts with purchasing a high tech home security system. These systems are not difficult to install or set-up. In fact, many of the modern security systems available on the current market were designed specifically to be easily set up by non-professionals without prior experience in electronics or home security systems. There is no need for special training or spending a lot of money on professional installation. Complex security systems may not always be required depending on the type of home you live in and the area where your home is located. For instance, if you are living in a well lit, densely populated neighborhood, chances are you wont need to take additional measures such as having your security system remotely monitored. Some systems are monitored by call centers serving the manufacturer of the security system and the customers who have them installed. When the alarm is triggered a home security representative will immediately call to assess the situation. That means you will know your high tech home security system has been triggered even if you are not in the home. However, in more rural areas this may be a necessity as you wont have nearby neighbors who may hear your alarm if it is triggered. No matter where you are, the best way to protect your home is with a high tech home security system.

Home invasion is one of the most terrifying and horrific crimes that a family or individual can experience. It can often leave people traumatized for long periods after the crime occrus and can also result in a complete loss of personal sense of security. Many are left devastated by home invasions and are unable to feel safe in their own homes afterwards. It would appear that one of the main targets for this terrible and dangerous crime is people who are elderly or physically disabled. Criminals who commit home invasions often target the weak and unprepared. They often use a weapon such as a knife or other cutting instruments to intimidate or even assault their victims.

Home Invasion statistics report that the crime is on the rise. People typically think of a home invasion as a robbery or a burglary. While in most cases this is the intended crime to be committed, in several cases home invasions occurs with the intent to commit a rape, an assault or even a murder. Money and expensive belongings may be the motivation behind most break-ins, but sometimes it is a secondary intention of criminals. Because the reasons, methods and intentions of home invasions are so varied it can be difficult to define reliable statistics on the crime. According to a report by the United States Department of Justice, 38% of assaults and 60% of rapes occur in the home during an invasion.

There are some startling statistics and facts about home invasion in the United States. It is estimated that in the U.S. at least one property related crime occurs every three seconds. In the United States there were over 3,600,000 each year between 1994 and 2005. Statistics Canada reported over 289,200 per year in the last five years. Statistically there are over 8000 reported home invasions each and every day across North America. These are just the facts for the crimes which are actually defined as home invasions. There are many burglaries and thefts which occur under different cirumstances which do not fall directly into that category of a home invasion for one reason or another.

Typically, criminals convicted of home invasions or porerty related offences indicate that they see residential homes as viable alternatives to robbing a bank or a convenience store. The reason for this is because of more and more businesses using high tech security systems on their business properties. It is becoming harder and harder for criminals to pull off robberies of business properties, leading them to target private residences instead.9 out of 10 convicted criminals who have commited home invasions have said that they would not attempt to break into a home with a home security system installed. Violent crime is on the rise in North America, and it is estimated that 1 out of every 5 homes are just as likely to experience a robbery as they are to have a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. Having a home security system installed makes your home three times less likely to be targeted by burglars.
