Glass break sensors add a greater level of protection to any alarm system. These sensors serve as audio sensors which sense the sound and vibration created when any type of glass is shattered. Glass break sensors instantly detect the attempted entry whenever shattering glass is detected. The sensor actually mounts on a wall or ceiling and listens to at any direction with a 25 foot radius. They do not hear through walls or into a bedroom if a door is left open. The more windows you have within the sensors area of protection, the better the value you will receive. Some examples of coverage are as follows.
If you have an open kitchen with a breakfast room and possibly a family room you can cover all the windows and glass doors with one sensor as long as the sensor is placed in the middle of the room and no window is further than 25 feet.
If you have a living room with many windows, you can protect all of them with one sensor because they are all in one area. Often times, the dining room is within the same area and can also be covered by the same sensor.
The glass break sensor listens for the frequency created by breaking glass but will not cause the alarm to go off unless it hears the frequency created by the impact or thump simultaneously. This is so that other noise created within your home from normal occupancy does not cause the sensor to erroneously set off the alarm.
